Athletics, Recreation and Physical Education –
Comprehensive Facility Assessment
UVic’s athletics and recreation facilities have been developed incrementally over the last 40 years, and not necessarily with the forethought that has been applied elsewhere in the university and which makes it one of the top campuses in Canada, attracting top academic students and faculty.
A comprehensive facility assessment was required...one which also looked at the university’s role in regional sports and community life.
YTA led this project, with support from Paul Rollo & Associates and Moore Paterson Architects.
The aim of the project was to assist both the Athletics and Recreation  Department and School of Physical Education, which share several facilities, to jointly develop a vision and then to plan facilities that will promote their growth over the next 20 to 30 years.
The result of YTA’s holistic approach to facility planning has been a much broader set of actions covering student and faculty health and wellness, yet all set against the facility backdrop.
